Sokoto Records First Covid 19 Case

Sokoto state government on Monday night announced the presence of a covid 19 patient in the Usman Dandodiyo University Teaching hospital (UDUTH).

Making the announcement at about mid night, the state governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal said the emergence of the first case might illicit further tighter actions.

“My fellow citizens of Sokoto state it is with a very heavy heart and sadness that I break this news to you today of a case of Corona virus (COVID-19) here in Sokoto.

“The index person, who is receiving treatment at the Usman Danfodio Teaching Hospital [SOKOTO] at the moment, now that the case has been confirmed, shall be transferred to the Sokoto state established isolation centre at Amanawa”

Tambuwal, while appealing to all and sundry in the state to continue to obey and respect all the measures as laid out by all the health experts to help contain the spread of the scourge, added that, corona virus is a reality.

“We have heard about it before, but it is now here with us. We must, therefore, redouble our efforts as a government and as citizens to curtail the spread. I, therefore appeal once again, that all measures put in place should continue to be respected. And, if need be, for the safety of the generality of the people of Sokoto state, we may take further necessary measures”

Recall that, the governor had earlier in the day stopped a family with a case of suspected covid 19 patient from entering Sokoto.

Tambuwal who emphatically ordered that the security agencies should arrest the said family should they attempt to enter the state adder that, he called them twice and pleaded with them not to come to Sokoto for now.

LEADERSHIP gathered that, the family were allegedly stopped in Gusua, Zamfara state after traveling all the way from Abuja with a convoy of exotic cars.

Efforts to speak with the family however proved abortive as they could not pick up their calls.
