Lagos Schools To Resume With Staggered Time Tables

Lagos State primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions will be adopting a staggered time tables and different teaching practices to meet the COVID-19 protocols as directed by the state government.

The state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had announced that tertiary institutions would reopen from September 14, with primary and secondary schools tentatively scheduled for September 21 reopening.

Commenting on the development, the vice-chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun on Monday, disclosed that students of the university would resume in batches from September.

Fagbohun, who spoke on a radio interview monitored in Lagos, explained that 400, 500 and 600 level students would resume first before other levels of students would come on board.

According to him, ‘’The 400, 500 and 600 levels students would resume for a duration of two months, with intensive lectures starting from 9am – 3pm daily for those that live off-campus. After their completion, students in 200 level and 300 level will then resume for two months of lectures which would be divided into different days of the week before the commencement of exams.’’

Also, the proprietor of Tolulope Schools, Alapere- Lagos and assistant general secretary, League of Muslim School Proprietors Worldwide (LEAMSP), Lagos State chapter, Mr. Tolulope Animashaun told LEADERSHIP that the association would be encouraging schools especially those with a large population to do two shifts in a bid to maintain social distancing among other guidelines.

He added, “We are very serious about all the COVID-19 protocols the government has placed down”.

The Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) has given our association members an online form to fill. This form will let us know when they will come to visit the school for assessment and give them the go-ahead for resumption after we’ve done the needful.”
