An Iranian national has been jailed for 10 years for spying for the UK.

The national, who has not been identified, worked for the British Council and was in charge of the Iran desk.

Gholamhossein Esmaili, a judiciary spokesman, said they received “clear confessions” that the person was “cooperating with Britain’s intelligence” before the sentencing.

The British Council is Britain’s cultural agency overseas.
