Innocent youths will not be unjustly harassed, intimidated by security operatives again – Osun Commissioner

The Osun State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Yemi Lawal has revealed that his ministry has been mandated by the Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, to ensure that no innocent youth in the state is harassed and intimidated by law enforcement agents.

In a personal statement obtained, the Commissioner disclosed that as part of the mandate, he will officially be going to the Ibadan office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to engage with the youths that were arrested in Osogbo on Tuesday 18th May, 2021.

According to Lawal, “I’ve been mandated by the Governor to ensure that no innocent youth is unduly harassed and intimidated by our law enforcement agents and that’s why I am going to Ibadan to see the people that were arrested.

“There is a right to peaceful assembly/protest and this the government of the State of Osun will not deprive anyone.
“I, however, appeal that we should not obstruct other people from going about their duties while protesting.”

It had been reported a protest by youths in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Tuesday, 18th May, 2021 after the EFCC conducted a raid of suspected internet fraudsters. hideout at Adetunji Estate.

The youths who barricaded major access routes in the town with burn fires carried their protest to the Government House, Oke-Fia, where they were addressed by the Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode and the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Yemi Lawal.

Also, it was reported that the EFCC had arrested a runaway soldier and 33 others for internet fraud in Osun.

The EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren said that the commission would charge them to court after investigations.
